1. All Women Entitled To Safe & Legal Abortion, Distinction Between Married & Unmarried Women Unconstitutional : Supreme Court

Supreme Court of India allowed unmarried and single women whose pregnancies are between 20 and 24 weeks to access safe and legal abortion care on par with their married counterparts. The Court ruled that exclusion of unmarried women who conceive out of live-in relationship from the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Rules is unconstitutional.

2. Putin to formalise annexation of Ukraine territory on Friday

Russian President Vladimir Putin is gearing up to give his official seal of approval for the annexation of captured regions of Ukraine on Friday (September 30). This will make Russia’s annexation of four Ukrainian regions official from Russia’s perspective. Russia does not yet fully control these regions but has carried out so-called referendums and even claimed victory. After his formal approval, a legal step will have been taken to annex 15 per cent of Ukraine’s territory.

3. Iran stepped up pressure on celebrities and journalists over Mahsa Amini protests

In response to the wave of protests organised by women that were started by outrage over the murder of Mahsa Amini after she was detained by the Islamic Republic’s morality police, Iran increased pressure on celebrities and journalists on Thursday.

Athletes, musicians, actors, and filmmakers have all supported the protests. Many people took it as a sign when the national football team stayed in their black tracksuits during the playing of the anthems before a match in Vienna against Senegal.

4. India to export Pinaka rocket launchers, ammunition to Armenia in $250m deal: Report

India has reportedly signed a $250 million deal to export arms and ammunition to Armenia, which is currently engaged in a tense stand-off with its neighbour Azerbaijan. The Pinaka is a multiple rocket launcher has been developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and is manufactured by Indian private firms.

5. Govt orders blocking 67 pornographic websites

The government has ordered internet companies to block 67 pornographic websites following court orders and for violating the new IT rules that were issued in 2021. In an email sent to internet service providers, the Department of Telecom (DoT) has asked them to block 63 websites based on the order of a Pune court, and block 4 websites based on the order of the Uttarakhand High Court and directions issued by the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY).
